Today I want to talk to you about list building. I’m specifically going to be discussing getting leads in the door for your email list.
An email list is a collection of email addresses that you collect by engaging with potential customers and clients through lead generating campaigns.
Having a robust email list is what can help you with sales. Because these people already know you, they are familiar with your work, they are used to engaging with you.
In combination with social media actions, website tracking, and joint marketing actions, email marketing is the ultimate, most powerful marketing channel.
The reason that engagement is much higher with email than most other channels because it goes in people’s personal inbox and people guard their email accounts and check it regularly than every other channel.
And if someone lets you email them because they opted in, they are more interested in what you have to say and you are competing less in an email inbox than you do on social media.
Did you know that email marketing databases degrade by about 22% every year? Emails lists usually shrink as members opt out of your email subscription so we constantly want to grow them with new leads.
The best way to grow your email list is to give something away for free. That could be a discount or a sale. For most of you Digital CEO’s that are listening to me that are service or B2B based, this is information. A free PDF, a free guide, a free worksheet, a free swipe file.
When we give away something for free in return for an email list, this is called a lead magnet. Some other lead magnets that you can create are cheat sheets, checklists, case studies, a blueprint, or an audio file.
You then create a landing page on your website with a form where you collect the email address and then you email your visitors the lead magnet.
Here are some tips for you to drive traffic to your lead magnet or discount or give-away.
And there are tons and tons more. These are just some ideas for you to get started.
If your list is super engaged and interested in what you have to say, once you sell them your prouct or service they will be more likely to buy from you.
I get asked all the time how many leads is enough and I can’t answer that for you, every list is different. There are digital CEOs that have a list of 1,000 people and they sell their course to them and 90% is buying. There are others that need 20,000 people and there are some that only need 100. It all depends on your business and how qualified your leads are.
When I sold my very first course I had 1,600 people on my email list, I invited them to a webinar and about 100 came. So that’s one just one example.
