I recently came across an article that discussed hashtags for Instagram, so I put my own spin on it to share with you
Here we go ...
An Instagram hashtag is a one word, or a series of words without spaces, that is marked with a hash symbol (#) and is used in an Instagram post’s description, or comments section. The main purpose of these hashtags is to help Instagram organize and categorize content – they help the platform present the right content to the right users.
It helps you gain more likes, more followers, and even make more sales!
There’s no such thing as the perfect hash tag! What works is to use a mix of 30 hashtags that will help you get discovered. 30 is the magic number that Instagram came up with.
Every brand has different searchable terms. Put yourself in your ideal customers shoes and start brainstorming what they would be searching for. For example if I want to promote life coaching, I could use:
#motivation #keepgoing #followyourdreams #positivity #lovingyourself
These are specifically for your industry and mostly used by peers and counterparts. So, competitors could be using these… But also, journalists and bloggers could be using these (you could get some media coverage!!!) …
#lifecoachschool #lifecoachthoughts #lifecoachcertification
This is for people searching for businesses based on city or state. So if I had a local life coaching business and wanted people in my area.
County (but only use if you live in a hip county where people actually know your county like #OC for Orange County): #elpasolifecoach
Does size matter?
You could use some of the popular hashtags that have over 500,000 posts. But you are competing with 500,000+ and it can be difficult to get your posts discovered.
Mix and match popular hashtags with less popular ones where you have more of a chance to be found.
Use hashtags with less than 500,000 posts for the majority of your 30 hashtags.
If you are needing some ideas of the best hashtags, here is a tool that I use often called All Hashtag.
Hope that helps!
